Welcome to TAJLR (Texas Association For Justice And Legal Reform)
Our Purpose And Mission
You have reached the organization in Texas which is dedicated to doing several things: (1) educating the masses of people in Texas about Deferred Adjudication, what it is; how it affects people; and what can be done to change it. It is our intent to unify the people of Texas in a manner which will address not only the concerns and needs of those suffering from the negative implications of having to live with the consequences of deferred adjudication (hereafter referred to simply as "DA") but will also serve to expose corruption now taking place all the way up and down the food chain in the Texas state government, including corruption happening in the city, county, and state arenas.
Our ultimate goal, of course, is to make our state/county/city governments more responsive to the needs of its citizens, especially those who have legal disabilities, meaning those who have been arrested, faced prosecution, and were given deferred adjudication in a criminal court of law. We hope to accomplish this, of course, by changing the current Texas expunction laws so that anyone who has ever received DA can one day look forward to having his/her criminal record expunged and thus go on to live a normal life after having had his/her lost civil rights and privacy protections restored. Current state law as written in TEXAS CODE OF CRIMINAL PROCEDURE Sections 55.01 and 55.02 currently prohibit ANYONE who was ever arrested and taken DA for anything other than a Class C Misdemeanor from EVER being allowed to expunge their criminal record. Ever!!! This will only happen through a massive, sustained effort in which the many affected Texas citizens push the idea and need of reform to the very forefront of hot issues that we want our elected state legislators to revisit and to fix.
Having said this, we will be looking for, and expecting mass participation from our many website visitors and volunteers to work with us and our elected state officials to make these badly needed changes in the law come about.
